Toy makers are building more lifelike toys that incorporate state-of-the-art robotic technologies but can be purchased at a more reasonable price. At the February, 2006, American International Toy Fair in New York, manufacturers introduced their latest creations. Hasbro is introducing what it calls a "realistic, life-size" miniature pony, Butterscotch My FurReal Friends Pony, that will be sensitive to light and touch.
The maker of the Roomba series of vacuum cleaners and Scooba floor washers, IRobot, which went public last November, has sold more than 1.5 million Roombas, at about $300, since they were introduced in late 2002. The company reported revenue of $142 million in 2005, a 49 percent increase over 2004.
Friendly Robotics markets a RoboMower that "is a fully robotic lawn mower, designed to mow your lawn completely by itself. All you have to do is simply press a button and with the RL1000 model, you do not even have to lift a finger! RoboMower is designed for domestic (consumer) lawns and can handle any garden that a traditional gas or electric walk mower can handle, irrespective of the shape and slopes of the garden, obstacles and type of lawn."
