Robot Toys, and more...

Toy makers are building more lifelike toys that incorporate state-of-the-art robotic technologies but can be purchased at a more reasonable price. At the February, 2006, American International Toy Fair in New York, manufacturers introduced their latest creations.
Hasbro is introducing what it calls a "realistic, life-size" miniature pony, Butterscotch My FurReal Friends Pony, that will be sensitive to light and touch.

The maker of the Roomba series of vacuum cleaners and Scooba floor washers, IRobot, which went public last November, has sold more than 1.5 million Roombas, at about $300, since they were introduced in late 2002. The company reported revenue of $142 million in 2005, a 49 percent increase over 2004.

Friendly Robotics markets a RoboMower that "is a fully robotic lawn mower, designed to mow your lawn completely by itself. All you have to do is simply press a button and with the RL1000 model, you do not even have to lift a finger! RoboMower is designed for domestic (consumer) lawns and can handle any garden that a traditional gas or electric walk mower can handle, irrespective of the shape and slopes of the garden, obstacles and type of lawn."

Have you ever seen a
Unicorn's Horn?

Narwhal tusks, up to nine feet long, were once believed to be unicorn horns and commanded high prices for their supposed magical powers. The truth of these tusks is nearly as incredible as the fiction! The tusk, which is a very long tooth, is a sensory organ of exceptional size and sensitivity, making the living appendage one of the planet's most remarkable.10 million nerve endings tunnel from the tusk's core toward its outer surface, communicating with the outside world. Scientists say the nerves can detect subtle changes of temperature, pressure, particle gradients and probably much else, giving the animal unique insights.

Internet Access Anywhere

It's finally here! The Internet access we have all been waiting for! Now you can connect to the Internet from your car, on a train, in the mountains, or on a boat. Wherever you go-there goes the Internet. The portable wireless routers for your car or boat maintain a broadband speed Internet connection even while in a moving vehicle. All you need is a roughly $400 mobile modem with a power outlet or car cigarette lighter, a PC card provided by a cellular carrier like Verizon, Sprint or Cingular, and a cell phone subscription. Omniway, Kyocera, Junxion, and Top Global each have a version of the device.

Dark Matter

"Dark Matter" is one of the mysteries of the universe that could be partially explained by energy coming from dead, or "dark", stars, according to a study released in 2001 in the journal Science. Scientists have been unable to find enough visible matter to explain the gravitational movement of objects in the universe. "Dark Matter" is how some scientists refer to dark, cooling objects. For more information on the study, copy and paste this "Astronomers find residue from stars " into the Google search above.
